Mi Sheberach: A Story of Healing

Debbie Friedman radically changed the sound of American Judaism from the 1960s through the 2010s. At the heart of her legacy is Mi Shebeirach, a healing prayer, written with her then partner, Rabbi Drorah Setel, that was born out of the grief and urgency of the AIDS crisis and quickly made its way into mainstream Jewish practice. At the time, the prayer encapsulated all that was missing from Jewish spiritual practice and radically reshaped how Jewish people approach communal healing. In a world that is increasingly divided, Mi Shibeirach: A Story of Healing asks whether the lessons Debbie shared through song and prayer might be the very thing that can bring us together.

NP2100

Across Baltimore and communities around the world, a powerful truth is emerging:
Trauma doesn’t live only in the mind, it lives in the body.

Set against the complex backdrop of West Baltimore, NP2100 begins with an

intimate portrait of a community shaped by both love and systemic inequity, where

history, identity, and resilience are deeply intertwined.

As the story expands, we follow the work of the Holistic Life Foundation, using

mindfulness, breath, and movement to help individuals reconnect, regulate, and heal.

From local classrooms to global communities, the film captures a growing movement. One that reimagines how we understand trauma, and how healing can begin.
